Why I went to Sydney to learn about lymph

There are some ideas that sit quietly in the back of your mind for years before you know exactly what to do with them.

For me, bringing wellness more deeply into Sukha has been one of them.

Before Sukha, I spent years working across different areas of the wellness industry. I've worked in skin, fitness, yoga, nutrition and wellness coaching, and although skin ultimately became the place I built my business, I've never really viewed it as something that exists in isolation.

I've always been fascinated by the whole person.

How we move. How we nourish ourselves. How we sleep. Our stress. Our energy. Our rituals. The seasons of life we're moving through.

And, ultimately, how all of those things influence the way we feel.

So when I started thinking seriously about what the next evolution of Sukha could look like, I knew I wanted to begin bringing those worlds back together.

Lymphatic bodywork felt like the first big step.

Before deciding how I wanted to offer it, I spent time researching lymphatic drainage and completed additional education in more traditional lymphatic techniques.

Then I found Sophie's work at Forme.

What drew me to her approach was that she wasn't looking at lymphatic bodywork through only one lens. Her Lymph Sculpt Method has been influenced by both the traditional Dr Vodder method and Brazilian lymphatic drainage - bringing together gentle, rhythmic lymphatic principles with a more sculptural approach to bodywork.

The two approaches have different origins and techniques. The Vodder method uses gentle, rhythmic movements and traditionally begins by clearing central lymphatic pathways, while Brazilian lymphatic drainage has become particularly known within beauty and wellness for combining lymphatic techniques with more dynamic bodywork. Sophie's method draws principles from both.

And that combination really resonated with me.

So I went to Sydney and trained with Sophie in person.

I came home not only excited about a new treatment, but with an even deeper appreciation for a system of the body most of us barely think about.

Because the lymphatic system isn't simply about looking less puffy.

It plays an important role in fluid balance, immune function and the transportation and absorption of dietary fats.

And perhaps the part I find most interesting is that it doesn't have a central pump like the heart.

Movement, muscle contraction and breathing all help support the movement of lymph through the body.

Suddenly we're talking about so much more than massage.

We're talking about movement.

Breath.

Hydration.

Rest.

The way we care for ourselves between appointments.

And that feels very Sukha to me.

This isn't Sukha moving away from skin.

It's Sukha becoming more of what I always imagined it could be.

Skin. Body. Wellbeing. Considered as a whole.
